Henry: “So she can’t remember anything?”

Sue: “No. She has all of her long-term memory. That’s a different part of her brain. Her whole life, up to the night before the accident, she remembers.”

50 First Dates1

Henry and Sue are having this discussion. Sue is describing Lucy as a unique individual who is extremely different from other people, and she is also telling Henry about the accident in which Lucy was a passenger in the car as she and her father were travelling to North Shore to purchase a pineapple.

Her father broke his ribs, but Lucy suffered a significant head injury, which is why she has lost her short-term memory. However, she still has all of her long-term memory, which means that she remembers the events of the night before the accident and all other events. She simply can’t stop herself from expressing the new information, which also suggests that all of her memories are erased when she goes to sleep at night.

2. “Henry: “I think she’s a local girl. I wanted to go up to her.But was she cute.”

Alexa: “I thought you liked your bitches from out of the state.”

Henry: “Yeah, that’s my policy.”

Alexa: “Sounds to me like someone is afraid of a commitment.

Henry is discussing Lucy with her assistant Alexa throughout their conversation. Although Henry is hesitant to approach her since he believes she is a local, he does so the next morning when they share breakfast. The following morning, Lucy requests to see him again.

During the course of explaining all of this to Alexa, who makes the remark that she mistakenly believed Lucy to be a local while in fact she is not, he reveals that he genuinely likes bitches from other states. Henry claims that it is his policy to like girls from outside the city, but in this situation it appears that he is terrified of commitment and does not want to commit to a specific individual for an extended period of time.

3. “Lucy Whitmore: I have a boyfriend.

Henry Roth: You’re making up a boyfriend so you can get rid of me?

Lucy Whitmore: No. I’m not.

Henry Roth: What’s his name then?

Lucy Whitmore: Ringo.

Henry Roth: Is his last name, Starr?

Lucy Whitmore: No. It is McCartney.”

Lucy Whitemore and Henry Roth are having a chat in which Lucy discloses that she has a boyfriend. Henry assumes that she is lying and making excuses, but Lucy insists that she is speaking the truth. The name of her boyfriend was clarified by Henry since he believes she is lying about him in order to get rid of him.

He also wanted to make sure she is telling the truth and isn’t making up information. For this reason, he inquired as to his boyfriend’s name, but Lucy flatly refused, stating that Ringo McCartney is the correct name.

4. “Lucy: “I don’t know who you are, Henry but I dream about you almost each night.”

Henry: “What would you say if I told you the book that you read every day used to have a lot of stuff about me in it?”

Lucy: “I would say that makes a lot of sense.”

Henry: “You erased me from your memories because you thought you were holding me back from having a happy life. But you made a mistake. Being with you is the only way I could have ahappy life. You’re the girl of my dreamsand, I’m the man of yours.”

Lucy in this quote, says to Henry that she does not who he really is but she dreams of him almost every night and she is confused why is it happening with her, then Henry replied that what would you say if I told you that the notebook she read daily had a lot of stuff about him, maybe that is the reason of he coming in her dreams, Lucy agrees and says that it makes a lot of sense.

And then Henry conveys his love for her by saying, you deleted me from your memory because you believed I needed your help to live a full and happy life. But you failed in something. The only way I could live a full and content life is by being with you. It seems that I am the guy of your dreams while you are the girl of mine.

Henry: “Yes, ma’am.”

Henry, Stacy, and the young woman are having this chat. Here, a young lady tells Henry that she believes he is your friend and the person behind the tape. He is more than just a friend, according to Lucy, who also claims that Henry is his boyfriend. Henry nods in agreement when Stacy, Lucy’s pregnant friend, tells him that you are the one who helps her understand what happened to her and patiently wait for Lucy to be okay before you manage to jog her memory and cause you to fall in love with him once more.

6. “Ula: “You meet her, flirt, no commitment, nobody gets hurt.”

Henry: “She’s got brain damage, you psycho.”

Ula: “Okay, I’ll give you that one. But I think it’d be right for you.”

Henry: “I appreciate your interest Ula, but leave me alone.”

Ula: “Hey, you’d be doing exactly what her father does: Giving her a wonderful day. She’ll never even know you’re gone.”

This conversation takes place between Henry and his best friend Ula, a wealthy, marijuana-smoking native Hawaiian assistant who is unhappy to be married to an overweight native lady and has five young, athletically gifted children. Ula claims that if you meet her, hang out with her, and flirt with her, you won’t be required to make a commitment.

Henry tells Ula to go after he explains that he cannot do that due of his brain impairment and that it would be best for him to simply be casual with Lucy. Ula claims that by giving her a lovely day, you would be imitating her father exactly. When it’s time for you to depart on your major boat excursion, poof, you simply depart. She doesn’t remember the things, so she won’t even realize you’re gone.

7. “Ula: “How long it’s going to take for her memory to come back?”

Henry: “Her doctors say it might never come back.”

Ula: “So basically, what you’re saying isthat she’s the perfect girl for you.”

Henry: “What do you mean?”

Ula: “You can hang out all day with no attachment.”

Henry: “Her plane leaves each night? There’s a problem.

When Ula asked Henry when Lucy’s memory would return, he responded that her doctors believe it may never do so. Ula and Henry were talking about Lucy at the time. Ula claims that Henry should date her because, in his opinion, he won’t feel any attachment to her despite spending the entire day with her because, no matter what she does or how many times he tries to make her remember him, she won’t remember him. Henry, however, believes that he is saying this because her plane departs every night.

8. “Henry: “I like your laugh.”

Lucy: “I like it when you make me laugh.”

Despite Lucy’s memory loss and all the difficulties they encountered, they both liked each other’s company and eventually started liking each other, as is evident through the quotation. Henry tells Lucy that he likes the way she laughs in this passage, but Lucy responds out of love by saying that she likes it when he makes her laugh.

Lucy asksJocko that do you believe that Henry and I are prepared to advance in our relationship. Are you certain about that. And do you think I should take advantage of him by bringing him into the other room. That hand motion caught my attention. And I appreciate that you did it. This quotation also demonstrates Lucy’s shame over her memory issues and her perception that Henry is being taken advantage of by him.

10. “Actually I’m not drunk at all, Noreen and neither you, because there’s no alcohol in these drinks. Sadly, I’ve used this technique many a times. It helps tourists such as you loosen up without your ability to stay awake all night and have guilt-free vigorous sex with me.” -Henry

50 First Dates2

In this excerpt, Henry is conversing with tax lawyer Noreen. After meeting Alexa in a bar, Henry makes an attempt to get together. Noreen is informed by Henry that these drinks don’t contain alcohol and that neither she nor he is genuinely drunk. I’ve used this approach a lot, which is a shame. It increases comfort for attractive tourists like yourself while having no impact on your ability to stay up all night having guilt-free, intense sex with me.

11. “If you know her condition, you know she can’t have a normal relationship with a man. Because the next morning, she won’t know who she is with.” -Marlin

This quote is spoken by Marlin, who is Lucy’s widowed father, a professional fisherman. He says that she cannot have a typical relationship with the man if you are familiar with her illness. She won’t recognise him when she wakes up the next morning. And I won’t be friends with any guy who is alright with it.

12. “Well, when you guys tell her, she’s not finding out about the accident. She’s finding out that her life is basically a setup. I think that’s what mainly freaks her out. – Henry

When Henry says in this comment that Lucy isn’t simply learning about the disaster when you guys inform her, he is referring to Lucy. Her awareness of how much of her life has been staged is growing. That, in my opinion, terrifies her the most, and it also illustrates his point that he wants to make—that Lucy has no memories, thus she won’t be aware of the disaster either-by implying that she is not aware of anything.
