Tokyo Ghoul Quotes that go deep down the nerves

Tokyo Ghoul is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Sui Ishida. The anime television series was directed by Shuhei Morita. It was written by Chuji Mikasano and licensed by Crunchyroll. The plot revolves around Ken Kaneki, who is a half-ghoul. Ghouls live among humans in this series. They live like regular human beings other than craving for flesh. Ken Kaneki becomes the first half human and half ghoul hybrid because of Rize. This incident draws him into the dark, violent world of ghouls that exist alongside the world of humans. The genre includes anime horror, Sci-Fi, fantasy and seinen.

1. “There’s no such thing as fate. It’s simply a combination of one circumstance and the next.” — Rize Kamishiro

Japanese people believe in fate. They believe that everything happens for a reason. There is always something connected, and we are connected to each other through fate. They believe it is written and will happen, whether it’s meeting with someone new, marriage or death. But Rize denies the Japanese belief in fate. He is conforming that there is nothing called fate and everything that is happening is a matter of circumstances. Circumstances happen one after another, and people call it fate.

2. “I’m not going to protect you by being your shield or armour, but I’ll be the dagger hidden below your pillow.” — Shuu Tsukiyama

Protecting someone is the most important yet difficult to do. Shuu is suggesting that he will not be the armour or shield. He will not protect from being in the front. Rather if he wants to protect himself, he will be a knife under the pillow. A protector who is in the dark and shadow, that will save you when you are least prepared for a fight. Being an armour or shield is protecting from the known things. But being a hidden knife means protecting from the unknown things.

3. “I was wrong. N I wasn’t eating ghouls. I’m the one who was being eaten.” — Kaneki Ken

Kaneki accepts his faults in this quote and says that it was his fault. It was his fault all the way. Accepting their own faults indicates the mature nature of Kaneki. He accepts that fact he is at fault, but he wasn’t eating ghouls. And he was the one who was being eaten by ghouls. He was a half-ghoul who needed to consume ghouls. Later, he realizes that even though he is eating them, he is the one that was being consumed by the ghouls. Their thought, emotions and memories were all he was able to know after he consumed them.

4. “There are times when you have to give up on one thing to preserve the other.” — Rize Kamishiro

Giving up on something is sometimes the best thing. If you are in a toxic relationship, then giving up on the person and moving on is the best way. Walking out of that relationship is to protect your own peace of mind. You are saving yourself from this. There will be times when you have to give up because that’s the last you have got under your sleeve. Rize was a ghoul with a huge appetite and was known as a binge eater. She was an enigmatic, independent, selfish and strong woman. And she has suffered a lot in her childhood which made her like that. She became practical and knew that if you wanted something, you needed to give up on something.

5. “Human relationships are chemical reactions. If you have a reaction, then you can never return back to your previous state of being.” — Kaneki Ken

Chemical reactions, when they happen, can’t be changed back to their original state. It is called a chemical reaction because it can’t be back. Here Kaneki compares human relationships with the chemical reaction. Human relationships are also just like chemical reactions. Once it is there, then you can’t switch back. If you love someone who is your friend, you can’t go back to the point where you are just friends. It maybe is painful, but it is what it is. Kaneki talks about this quote while he was the victim of Rize and was a new half-ghoul. He can’t change back to his original human life as his life is changed for him now.

6. “Sometimes good people make bad choices; it doesn’t mean they are bad people. It means they are human.” — Kishou Arima

Making mistakes is what makes us humans. A human being is not perfect. There will be something which we lack. Sometimes we make good choices, and sometimes we make bad choices. Good people making bad choices do not mean that we are bad people. It suggests that we are human and can make mistakes. Kishou is known as the Reaper of CCG. He is a strict man of honour and principles.And he believes that the world is grey rather than black and white.

7. “Life is to constantly sin. N Life is evil itself. I am aware I am evil… And so are you all. Now, come kill me, and I shall do the same.” — Yoshimura

What is life? It is like a road on a hill; sometimes, we have to go up, and sometimes we go down. According to Yoshimura, life is evil itself. Life is there to sin. He is aware that he is evil and tells them they are all evil. And he is a manager of a coffee shop by the name of Anteiku. He is a kind man who helps the lost ghouls to find their way back. But he has experienced all the joys and sorrows of life.

8. “Why should I apologize for being a monster? Has anyone ever apologized for turning me into one?” — Juuzou Suzuya

Juuzou Suzuya is a ghoul hunter who was raised by Big Madam. Juuzou is neglected by most of their peers because they think he is a monster. And Juuzou frustratedly asked these questions. He asked why he should apologize for being a monster. Even if he is a monster, did anyone apologize to him for turning him into one? The treatment which he gets from Big Madam it turned him into a cold person. He no longer feels any pain or fear as a result. And he was being treated as an outcast and had fewer social interactions because of it.

9. “When you’re in front of the enemy, even if your hands are trembling, fight. That’s what it means to be a professional.” — Kureo Mado

Kureo Mado was a first-class investigator who was obsessed with ghouls’ kagune. He made quinces, which are special ghoul-killing weapons, out of ghouls’ kagune. The only way out is to fight. Even if it seems that you can’t win with the person who is in the front, fight. Fighting is what makes you a professional. Even if the hands are trembling and deep inside, you know that you are gonna lose, fight. Kureo had always chased what he wanted and told everyone who would listen to him to stand their ground.

10. “Why is it that beautiful things entwined more deeply with death than with life?” — Kaneki Ken

Kaneki says that when he sees Arima for the first time during the Anteiku raid. Beautiful things are always connected with life. But everything perishes. Moreover, everyone is obsessed with having something beautiful with them, which is often associated with life. Rose is a symbol which is shared between the two lovers to confess their love. And Rose is a symbol of love. It is a beautiful thing which is connected with life. But once the rose is dead, it doesn’t seem beautiful anymore. Here in this quote, Kaneki is expressing his thoughts. He is saying that beautiful things are entwined more deeply with death than with life.

11. “Whose fault is it that things ended up like this?” -Rize Kamishiro

Rize was an independent ghoul whose victim fell for her charms. She was extremely selfish and thought little to none of the hardships her binge eating habit caused to other ghouls. And she had no ambition to wander aimlessly just to appease her boredom. While Rize was attacking Kaneki, she was crushed by metal rods. After that, Kaneki started seeing a hallucination of Rize, who helped him embrace his ghoul side. Rize was kept as an experiment by Kanou. She was asking about whose fault it was that she ended up like that.

12. “I’m not the protagonist of a novel or anything. N I’m just a college student who likes to read, as you can find anywhere. But…if for argument’s sake, you were to write a story with me in the lead role, it would certainly be…a tragedy.” – Ken Kaneki

Ken Kaneki is the main protagonist of the Tokyo Ghoul series. Moreover, he was a student of Japanese literature at Kamil University. Kaneki was a shy and reserved person. He usually spent most of his time reading books, mostly novels. And he was gentle, kind and optimistic most of the time. Eventually, he despised the idea of solitude, and hence he tried to protect those dear to him so he would not have to face his fear of being alone in the world. He does not consider himself a protagonist of any novel. If there is any story written about him, then it would probably be a tragedy. He considers his life a tragedy.
