Japanese manga series “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba,” also known as “Blade of Demon Destruction,” was created by Koyoharu Gotouge. It centers on teenage Tanjiro Kamado, who aspires to become a demon hunter following the massacre of his family and the transformation of his younger sister Nezuko into a monster. From February 2016 to May 2020, it was published in Shueisha’s shounen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump, and its episodes were compiled in 23 volumes. Viz Media and Shueisha both released it concurrently on their Manga Plus platforms in English.
A significant supporting character in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is Kanao Tsuyu. She is a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, Shinobu Kocho’s Tsuguko, and Shinobu and Kanae Kocho’s adopted sister. Due to the violence, she had experienced in the past before meeting the Kocho sisters, Kanao was initially a quiet and indecisive girl. She lost the ability to decide for herself and, as a coping tactic, repressed her feelings. Kanae handed her a coin toss to determine which course to go on when she was unsure of what to do to assist fix this.
1. “Somehow, I feel the people I care for and those important to me will still be alive tomorrow. But that’s my hope, and there’s no way I can promise that with any certainty. Why do people… believe such things.”- Kanao Tsuyuri
In this quote, Kanao Tsuyuri talks to herself about her struggles with believing that the people she loves should live because she believes they should always be by her side. However, she realizes that this is just a feeling and that it may not be possible because there is always some uncertainty and nothing can be guaranteed, making it difficult for people to believe such things.
2. “People born into this world can feel joy, sadness, rage, and other emotions so strongly they tremble. But that’s all a mystery to you, isn’t it? You’ve never felt happier. Felt enjoyment. Felt pain. In fact, you’re nothing but an empty shell. It’s quite comical; it’s so stupid. Why were you even born?”- Kanao Tsuyuri
As Doma is revealed to be clinically apathetic, which means that she is incapable of feeling genuine emotions, Kanao Tsuyuri speaks to Doma in this quote. Even as a human, Doma acknowledged that the idea of feeling was entirely alien to him. Despite his inherent indifference, he showed anger when Kanao criticized his lack of real feeling, eschewing his benevolent persona and actually attempting to kill her.
3. “Don’t Ever Give Up. Even If It’s Painful, Don’t Try To Take the Easy Way.” -Zenitsu Agatsuma
Zenitsu has several fears, including the fear of passing away. Despite this, he continues to put in a lot of effort and attempts to motivate others to do the same. Despite being the comedy relief on the program, he is a fighter who never gives up. The fact that Zenitsu Agatsuma, a character who is afraid, said this strong phrase that encourages viewers to be their best selves and work toward their goals makes it even more motivating for individuals to cope with their fears.
4. “It’s the Heart That Drives People” – Tanjiro Kamado
Kanao merely yields to peer pressure and believes she is fully opinion-free. When that isn’t an option, she decides what to do by tossing a coin. As soon as Tanjiro becomes aware of this, he counsels her to begin listening to the still, small voice inside her heart. They are witnessing a momentous occasion that might affect Kanao’s destiny. This is a lovely quote since it affects not only the characters in the anime but also the viewers and has the power to entirely determine Kanao’s future. Additionally, it provides us with an opportunity to once more witness Tanjiro’s heart.
5. “If You Are Feeling Disheartened and feel that You Are Somehow Not Enough, Set Your Heart Ablaze and Look Ahead!” -Kyojuro Rengoku
We could only see a little portion of Rengoku, which was unfortunate. But he does seem to have Tanjiro’s zeal and fervor. He will go to tremendous measures to support and uplift the weak, even if it means taking a life-threatening ride on the Mugen Train. Before he dies, he counsels courage in Tanjiro and his friends. It is a strong quote that is a part of an even greater speech, and it will make Tanjiro even more resilient and wise. Given that it was given by a guy who was dying, people will remember him and will not let his passing be in vain.
6. “All You Did Was Memorize a Fact. Your Body Has No Clue What It Needs to Do.”- Sabito
Sabito is a brief-appearance character who is connected to a few significant figures. Given that his uniform is the same as half of Giyu’s, it is clear that the two once had a tight bond before Sabito passed away during his own trial. He is also to blame for Tanjiro’s survival after his initial training in the mountains before he was able to break through the rock. This phrase, which is for a character in the anime, is also helpful for those who find it difficult to act appropriately while knowing what to do, and it has an effect on Tanjiro and aids in his development. The fact that Tanjiro may understand the procedure, but his body does not immediately relate to his main issue.
7. “If You Can Only Do One Thing, Hone It to Perfection. Hone It to The Upmost Limit.” -Jigoro Kuwajima
Zenitsu received instruction in thunder-breathing techniques from his grandfather. Even though he was a little strict with him, his grandpa persisted in educating him after many failures because he had faith in Zenitsu even though no one else did. He is the reason Zenitsu is as skilled as he is, and Zenitsu keeps this quote in mind when times are difficult. Zenitsu’s proficiency is a result of both this saying and his grandfather’s instruction. He has mastered one breathing method to the point where he can and performs it while sleeping. It also discusses Zenitsu, who has a number of flaws but has developed his talent to the fullest extent possible, and not many people can match his degree of strength.
8. “Feel the rage; the powerful, pure rage of not being able to forgive will become your unswerving drive to take action.”- Giyu Tomioka
This Giyu Tomioka is a well-known statement about emotions and motivation that actually gives viewers insight into his persona and what would be causing him to act in such a way and turn into a hashira. Most members of the Demon Slayer Corps have experienced some sort of horrific event that catapulted them into this world of blood and demons, and those feelings motivated them to act rather than passively wallow in the pain and anguish they were left with. While certain emotions can be crippling, others can be quite effective motivators.
9. “The Strong Should Aid and Protect the Weak. Then, the Weak Will Become Strong and They, in turn, Will Aid and Protect Those Weaker than Them. That Is the Law of Nature.” -Tanjiro Kamado
Giyu, the Water Hashira who first encountered Tanjiro and defended Nezuko from his fellow demon slayers, has a depressing outlook on life. According to their actions when we first meet them, it appears that the majority of his fellow Hashira share this belief that the weak are just there to be trampled on by the powerful.
Tanjiro battles to defend the vulnerable and make them stronger once he becomes a demon slayer. What he says is true, as we can see. The members of his class who passed the examination to become demon slayers are all flawed individuals. We have seen them develop and get stronger with each other’s assistance, even throughout the first season.
10. “There’s no other way to go but forward.”– Sabito
Sabito is a character that not many people are familiar with, yet he imparts wisdom to Tanjiro that surpasses that of a child, in part because of his own flaws in how he died and in part because of the unique training he had to undergo with Urokodaki.
This remark is very motivational since it is so accurate; Tanjiro can never return to the life he led before learning about demons. To save his sister and get revenge on his family, he can only keep pushing forward and achieve the objectives he has set for himself.
11. “Those Who Regretted Their Own Actions, I Would Never Trample Over Them. Because Demons Were Once Human, too. Just Like Me, They Were Human, too.” -Tanjiro Kamado
This quote demonstrates how Tanjiro thinks differently from the Hashira. In addition to being eager to defend and uplift his sister, who is now a demon, he also thinks all demons should be given a chance. We learn during the series that many demons were once simply average people and that Muzen’s transformation caused their primary motivation to change from whatever innocent or childlike it had been to something twisted and horrible.
12. “I wanted to protect her. I wanted to risk my life for her, and I wanted to go home together.”- Kanao Tsuyuri
In this quote, Kanao Tsuyuri is talking to herself about Shinobu Kocho, who saved Kanao together with her sister. When Shinobu and her sister saved Kanao Tsuyuri, a child she had an intentionally negative attitude toward parenting, it was evident that her younger self had a more brazen, direct, and straightforward manner. However, following Kanae’s passing, Shinobu started acting more like her sister on the outside, eventually developing a similar attitude and mannerisms, all the while suppressing her anger—which, as she later admits—in order to maintain the smile that her sister preferred. Shinobu has notable anger, one that even Inosuke Hashibira notices, despite it never being displayed onscreen.
